Definition

What Is Gold Metal Coating?

Unlike decorative paints or imitation finishes, gold metal coating at VeroMetal® uses real metal particles suspended in a liquid binder. Once applied, sanded and polished, it achieves the visual and tactile feel of solid gold.

That makes it ideal for premium interior spaces, retail and hospitality environments, brand expressions and luxury design elements, and for exterior applications with long lasting impact. Gold metal coating offers an alternative to traditional gold leaf or plating, allowing for seamless application on large and complex surfaces.

The Process

From Liquid Gold To Solid Metal

VeroMetal Gold is applied cold, without heat, casting or foundry equipment. Three steps take it from a wet mixture to a genuine gold surface.

01

Mix

Real metal particles are suspended in a liquid binder to form a cold, workable liquid gold.

02

Apply

The liquid is applied to a prepared substrate by brush, roller, trowel or spray, building a layer of only 120 to 150 microns.

03

Cure and finish

Once cured, the surface is sanded and polished and, if desired, taken to a custom aged gold patina or sealed.

Comparison

Gold Metal Coating With VeroMetal vs Solid Sheet Metal

Both deliver a genuine metal surface. The difference is weight, freedom of form and where each can realistically be used.

Gold Metal Coating With VeroMetal

Liquid gold coating
  • Approximately 0.5 kg/m², applied at 120 to 150 microns.
  • Bonds to MDF, wood, plaster, concrete, glass, plastic and metal.
  • Seamless application on large and complex surfaces.
  • Custom patinas, from polished brilliance to aged gold.
  • An alternative to traditional gold leaf or plating.

Solid Sheet Metal

Traditional cladding
  • Many times heavier than a coating for a comparable surface.
  • Requires fixings, sub-structure and load-bearing support.
  • Curves and complex forms need fabrication and welding.
  • Panel joints and seams are visible in the finished surface.
  • Real metal, but constrained by weight and installation.

Substrates

What Can Gold Metal Coating Be Applied To?

Because gold coating is a thin liquid layer rather than a fixed panel or a sheet of leaf, it bonds to almost any prepared substrate. This is what allows seamless application on large and complex surfaces.

  • Mineral surfacesPlaster, concrete and architectural walls, panels and detailing.
  • Synthetics and glassPlastic, polyester, composite panels, lighting components and glass elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gold Metal Coating: Common Questions

What is gold metal coating?

Unlike decorative paints or imitation finishes, gold metal coating at VeroMetal® uses real metal particles suspended in a liquid binder. Once applied, sanded and polished, it achieves the visual and tactile feel of solid gold. It is applied cold at 120 to 150 microns by brush, roller, trowel or spray.

How does gold coating compare to gold leaf or plating?

Gold metal coating offers an alternative to traditional gold leaf or plating, allowing for seamless application on large and complex surfaces. Where leaf is laid in sheets and plating requires a bath, the coating is applied as a liquid and cures into one continuous surface, without seams or size limits.

What surfaces can gold metal coating be applied to?

Gold coating bonds to almost any prepared substrate, including MDF, wood, plaster, concrete, glass, plastic, polyester and existing metal. This is why it can be used on feature walls, lighting fixtures, mirror frames, cabinetry, signage and custom objects alike.

How heavy is a gold coated surface?

A VeroMetal® Gold surface weighs approximately 0.5 kg/m² and is applied at only 120 to 150 microns, a fraction of the weight of solid sheet metal of comparable appearance. That low weight is what allows a real gold tone on lightweight substrates, curved forms and large surfaces.

Which gold finishes are available?

Gold is available with custom patinas, from polished to aged gold looks. A polished finish gives maximum brilliance and depth, while an aged or patinated finish gives a quieter, more historic character. Finishes can be sealed for a stable appearance.

Why do designers choose VeroMetal Gold?

Designers, architects and brand owners choose VeroMetal® for projects where luxury, innovation and finish quality must align. The gold coatings deliver prestige without compromise, giving every detail depth and visual impact, from flagship interiors to boutique product lines and landmark buildings.
