Definition

What Is Brass Metal Coating?

Brass metal coating is a liquid application made from real brass particles suspended in a binder. Once applied, cured and finished, it creates the appearance and texture of solid brass, without the weight or cost.

Because the surface is genuine brass, it behaves like brass. It can be polished to a bright shine, taken to a black or green patina, or sealed with a clearcoat, giving interior design features, high end furniture accents, architectural detailing and retail and hospitality environments the exact character a project calls for.

The Process

From Liquid Brass To Solid Metal

VeroMetal Brass is applied cold, without heat, casting or foundry equipment. Three steps take it from a wet mixture to a genuine brass surface.

01

Mix

Real brass particles are combined with a binder to form a cold, workable liquid brass.

02

Apply

The liquid is applied to a prepared substrate by brush, roller, trowel or spray, building a layer of only 120 to 150 microns.

03

Cure and finish

Once cured, the brass is sanded and polished and, if desired, patinated or sealed with a clearcoat.

Finishes

Brass And The Wider VeroMetal Range

Comparison

Brass Metal Coating With VeroMetal vs Solid Sheet Metal

Both deliver a genuine brass surface. The difference is weight, freedom of form and where each can realistically be used.

Brass Metal Coating With VeroMetal

Liquid brass coating
  • Approximately 0.5 kg/m², applied at 120 to 150 microns.
  • Bonds to MDF, wood, plaster, concrete, glass, plastic and metal.
  • Seamless across complex and curved forms, without joints.
  • Customisable finishes from high polished to patinated brass.
  • Real brass that can be sanded, polished, patinated and aged.

Solid Sheet Metal

Traditional cladding
  • Many times heavier than a coating for a comparable surface.
  • Requires fixings, sub-structure and load-bearing support.
  • Curves and complex forms need fabrication and welding.
  • Panel joints and seams are visible in the finished surface.
  • Real brass, but constrained by weight and installation.

Substrates

What Can Brass Coating Be Applied To?

Because brass coating is a thin liquid layer rather than a fixed panel, it bonds to almost any prepared substrate. That is what makes lightweight and flexible application possible, including on complex and curved forms.

  • Boards and timberMDF, plywood, solid wood, cabinetry and custom furniture pieces.
  • Mineral surfacesPlaster, concrete and architectural walls and detailing.
  • Synthetics and glassAcrylic, plastic, polyester, composite panels and glass elements.
  • Existing metalAluminium, stainless steel and existing metalwork, doors and columns.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brass Metal Coating: Common Questions

What is brass metal coating?

Brass metal coating is a liquid application made from real brass particles suspended in a binder. Once applied, cured and finished, it creates the appearance and texture of solid brass, without the weight or cost. VeroMetal® Brass is applied by brush, roller, trowel or spray at 120 to 150 microns and can then be sanded, polished and patinated like solid brass.

Is VeroMetal Brass real brass?

Yes. VeroMetal® Brass is made with real brass particles, not pigment or effect paint. The cured surface is genuine brass, which is why it can be polished to a bright shine or taken to a deep black or green patina using standard metalworking techniques.

What surfaces can brass metal coating be applied to?

Brass coating bonds to almost any prepared substrate, including MDF, wood, plaster, concrete, glass, plastic, polyester and existing metal. Because it is a coating rather than a fixed panel, cabinetry, doors, feature walls and architectural details can receive a genuine brass surface without structural modification.

How heavy is a brass coated surface?

A VeroMetal® Brass surface weighs approximately 0.5 kg/m² and is applied at only 120 to 150 microns, a fraction of the weight of solid sheet brass of comparable appearance. That is what makes real brass possible on lightweight substrates, curved forms and large surfaces.

Which brass finishes are available?

Brass is customisable from high polished to patinated. Polished brass gives a bright, contemporary gold tone, while black and green patinas give depth and age. Every finish can be sealed with a clearcoat for a stable appearance or left open to develop further character.

Why do designers choose VeroMetal Brass?

Designers and architects use VeroMetal® Brass for projects where material quality and design impact must come together. The coating enables seamless application across surfaces, including complex and curved forms, so hotel lobbies, retail interiors, cabinetry and custom furniture can carry the warmth of real brass without joints or panel lines.
