Definition

What Is Tin Metal Coating?

Tin metal coating is a liquid application made from real tin particles, applied to surfaces like MDF, stone, wood or metal. Once cured and finished, it replicates the soft sheen of solid tin, offering a neutral and versatile finish.

That makes it ideal for contemporary interior detailing, for furniture and surface design, and for brand identity and product elements. Tin coating is an excellent choice for projects requiring understated elegance and material refinement.

The Process

From Liquid Tin To Solid Metal

VeroMetal Tin is applied cold, without heat, casting or foundry equipment. Three steps take it from a wet mixture to a genuine tin surface.

01

Mix

Real tin particles are combined with a binder to form a cold, workable liquid tin.

02

Apply

The liquid is applied to a prepared substrate by brush, roller, trowel or spray, building a layer of only 120 to 150 microns.

03

Cure and finish

Once cured, the tin is finished brushed, polished or aged to the soft sheen the project calls for.

Finishes

Tin And The Wider VeroMetal Range

Tin leads this page, but it is one of a full family of genuine metals, each available in multiple surface treatments and patina states.

The Principle

Real metal where solid metal cannot go. Tin coating brings the soft sheen and neutral depth of genuine tin to surfaces that could never carry solid sheet.

Comparison

Tin Metal Coating For Decorative Surfaces With VeroMetal vs Solid Sheet Metal

Both deliver a genuine tin surface. The difference is weight, freedom of form and where each can realistically be used.

Tin Metal Coating With VeroMetal

Liquid tin coating
  • Approximately 0.5 kg/m², applied at 120 to 150 microns.
  • Versatile and lightweight, adhering to wood, MDF, stone and more.
  • Real metal content, more authentic than decorative paints.
  • Customisable finish: brushed, polished or aged.
  • Reaches surfaces that would otherwise require heavier or more complex fabrication.

Solid Sheet Metal

Traditional cladding
  • Many times heavier than a coating for a comparable surface.
  • Requires fixings, sub-structure and load-bearing support.
  • Curves and complex forms need fabrication and welding.
  • Panel joints and seams are visible in the finished surface.
  • Real tin, but constrained by weight and installation.

What Can Tin Metal Coating Be Applied To?

Tin coating is versatile and lightweight, and it adheres to wood, MDF, stone and more. Because it is a thin liquid layer rather than a fixed panel, it brings real tin to surfaces that would otherwise require heavier or more complex fabrication.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tin Metal Coating: Common Questions

What is tin metal coating?

Tin metal coating is a liquid application made from real tin particles, applied to surfaces like MDF, stone, wood or metal. Once cured and finished, it replicates the soft sheen of solid tin, offering a neutral and versatile finish. It is applied cold at 120 to 150 microns by brush, roller, trowel or spray.

Is VeroMetal Tin real metal?

Yes. VeroMetal® Tin has real metal content, which makes it more authentic than decorative paints. The cured surface is genuine tin and can be worked with standard metalworking techniques, so it can be brushed, polished or aged to suit the project.

What surfaces can tin metal coating be applied to?

Tin coating is versatile and lightweight, and it adheres to wood, MDF, stone and more, including plaster, concrete, glass, plastic and existing metal. This is why it suits feature walls, architectural panels, tabletops, shelving, cabinetry, lighting components and signage alike.

How heavy is a tin coated surface?

A VeroMetal® Tin surface weighs approximately 0.5 kg/m² and is applied at only 120 to 150 microns, a fraction of the weight of solid sheet metal of comparable appearance. It brings the look of real tin to surfaces that would otherwise require heavier or more complex fabrication.

Which tin finishes are available?

The tin finish is customisable: brushed, polished or aged. A polished finish gives a soft, even sheen, a brushed finish adds direction and texture, and an aged finish gives a quieter, more worn character. All three keep the neutral tone that makes tin so easy to combine.

Why do designers choose VeroMetal Tin?

Designers and architects choose the VeroMetal® tin coating for its soft tone and clean aesthetic. It enhances modern spaces without overwhelming them and brings an elevated, contemporary finish to any project, which makes it an excellent choice where understated elegance and material refinement are required.
