Definition

What Are Bronze Kitchen Cabinets?

VeroMetal® Bronze is a liquid metal coating containing actual bronze particles, applied directly to cabinet fronts, drawer faces, island panels and splashbacks at 120 to 150 microns. The result is an authentic bronze surface that develops natural patina over time, on any kitchen substrate, without the weight or cost of solid bronze sheet.

Most bronze-look kitchen finishes, laminates, foils and powder coatings, simulate the appearance of bronze without containing it. The surface is flat, uniform and does not change over time. VeroMetal Bronze is composed of real bronze in a cold-workable resin and is worked exactly as a craftsman would work a solid bronze surface. It has depth, texture and variation that no laminate can reproduce.

The Process

How Are Bronze Kitchen Cabinets Finished With VeroMetal?

VeroMetal® Bronze bonds directly to primed MDF, plywood and most existing cabinet substrates. No specialist metalworking equipment is required and the process can be carried out on-site or in a workshop.

01

Mix

Real bronze particles are combined with a cold-workable resin binder, in standard Bronze, Aged Bronze or a polished bronze build-up.

02

Apply

After surface preparation and priming, VeroMetal Bronze is applied to the cabinet fronts and surfaces by spray gun, roller or palette knife at 120 to 150 microns.

03

Cure and finish

The cured surface is sanded, polished or patinated, then sealed for maximum durability, or left unsealed to develop natural oxidation over time.

Finishes

Which VeroMetal Finish Suits Your Kitchen?

Bronze leads the kitchen range and comes in several variants. Standard Bronze is a warm, mid-toned finish with natural depth, the most widely specified for cabinet fronts. Aged Bronze is pre-patinated, with a more antique character and deeper tonal variation. Bronze Polished is a high-polish, reflective surface, sealed after polishing for long-term durability. The wider VeroMetal range offers over 15 metals alongside it.

Comparison

Bronze Kitchen Cabinets With VeroMetal vs Solid Sheet Bronze

Both deliver a genuine bronze surface. The difference is weight, freedom of form and where each can realistically be used in a kitchen.

Bronze Kitchen Cabinets With VeroMetal

VeroMetal Bronze coating
  • Approximately 0.5 kg/m², applied at 120 to 150 microns.
  • Bonds to primed MDF, plywood, lacquered fronts and existing cabinetry.
  • Continuous bronze across fronts, island sides, plinths, splashbacks, edges and reveals.
  • Applied on-site during renovation, without full cabinet replacement.
  • Real bronze that can be polished, patinated and left to develop verdigris.

Solid Sheet Metal

Bronze sheet fabrication
  • Many times heavier than a coating for a comparable surface.
  • Requires fabrication, fixings and reinforced cabinet carcasses.
  • Curved fronts, edges and reveals need specialist forming and welding.
  • Joints and seams are visible at every junction.
  • Real bronze, but constrained by weight, cost and fabrication.

Substrates

Which Kitchen Surfaces Can Carry Real Bronze?

Because VeroMetal® Bronze is a thin metal skin rather than a fixed panel, it bonds to the cabinet substrates a kitchen is already built from. That is why a bronze finish can run continuously across every visible junction.

  • Cabinet fronts and drawer facesThe primary application, delivering a consistent bronze surface across all door and drawer elements in primed MDF or plywood.
  • Island panels and plinthsBronze applied to kitchen island sides and base panels creates a continuous bronze aesthetic throughout the space.
  • Splashbacks and wall panelsBronze-coated splashbacks integrate the kitchen surface treatment into the wider wall scheme.
  • Worktop edges and revealsDetail surfaces and exposed edges coated in VeroMetal Bronze complete the bronze cabinet finish at every visible junction.

  • Rhijnart Keukens, IJsselsteinVeroMetal Bronze applied to a complete kitchen design.
  • Martin Van Essen Keukens, LeusdenA delivered VeroMetal Bronze kitchen project, alongside a further bronze kitchen completed in Alkmaar.
  • Specifying sealed or unsealedA sealed bronze surface keeps a consistent appearance and cleans easily, the most practical choice for high-use kitchens. An unsealed surface develops natural verdigris and oxidation, a quality many designers actively specify for its authentic, aged character.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bronze Kitchen Cabinets: Common Questions

What are bronze kitchen cabinets?

Bronze kitchen cabinets are kitchen cabinet fronts, drawer faces and panel surfaces finished with a real bronze coating. VeroMetal® Bronze contains actual bronze particles applied at 120 to 150 microns to primed cabinet substrates including MDF and plywood. The result is a genuine bronze surface that develops authentic patina over time, unlike bronze-look laminates or foils which simulate the appearance without containing real metal.

Can VeroMetal Bronze be applied to existing kitchen cabinets?

Yes. VeroMetal® Bronze bonds directly to most existing cabinet surfaces including painted MDF, lacquered fronts and primed plywood. A certified VeroMetal applicator can coat existing cabinet fronts on-site during a kitchen renovation, which means full cabinet replacement is not required to achieve a genuine bronze finish.

How do you maintain VeroMetal Bronze kitchen cabinets?

Sealed VeroMetal® Bronze kitchen cabinets are maintained with standard non-abrasive kitchen cleaning products and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on sealed surfaces. Unsealed bronze surfaces develop natural patina over time and require no special treatment. Occasional light cleaning with a damp cloth is sufficient. VeroMetal provides full care guidance with every project specification.

Does VeroMetal Bronze patina naturally like solid bronze?

Yes. VeroMetal® Bronze contains real bronze particles and develops authentic verdigris and oxidation patina when left unsealed, identical to the ageing process of solid bronze. The rate and character of patination depends on the environment and surface treatment. Interior designers frequently specify unsealed VeroMetal Bronze for kitchen cabinets specifically to achieve this organic, evolving surface quality.

Which kitchen studios work with VeroMetal Bronze?

VeroMetal® Bronze has been specified by kitchen studios including Mint Interieur, Rhijnart Keukens and Martin Van Essen Keukens. Completed projects range from luxury residential kitchens to historic property conversions.
