Definition

What Are Metal Finishes For Yacht Interior?

Yacht designers and builders require materials that meet the highest aesthetic and technical standards. VeroMetal® coatings are crafted from real metal and adhere to a wide range of substrates including wood, MDF, stone and composites. These finishes deliver the look and feel of solid metal while maintaining the lightweight requirements crucial for marine applications.

That is the whole argument. A VeroMetal® surface weighs approximately 0.5 kg/m² at 120 to 150 microns, a fraction of the weight of solid sheet metal of comparable appearance. On a superyacht, where every kilogram is fought over, this is what puts genuine bronze, brass and copper onto wall panels, ceiling panels and full staircases that could never carry solid sheet.

The Process

From Liquid To Solid Metal Onboard

Real metal reaches a yacht interior in three cold steps, in the yard or in the joinery workshop, with no heat, casting or foundry equipment.

01

Mix

Real bronze, brass, copper or zinc particles are combined with a binder to form a cold, workable liquid metal in the chosen alloy.

02

Apply

The liquid is applied by brush, roller, trowel or spray at only 120 to 150 microns. Flexible application on vertical and curved surfaces allows seamless integration with complex forms.

03

Cure and finish

Once cured, the surface is sanded, polished and, if desired, patinated or sealed. The non porous result is easy to clean and maintain.

Finishes

Which Metals Suit A Yacht Interior?

Choose from timeless metals such as brass, bronze and copper, with a wide range of custom patinas and textures. Each finish can be customised with patinas, textures and polishing techniques to match the desired atmosphere onboard.

VeroMetal bronze finish sample for yacht salons

Bronze

The signature warm tone for salons and bar elements. Polishes to a rich shine or darkens with a deep patina.

VeroMetal brass finish sample for yacht interiors

Brass

A bright, contemporary gold tone. A brass mix with two patinas is a recurring choice for yacht joinery and trims.

VeroMetal copper finish sample for yacht cabins

Copper

A warm, reddish-gold liquid metal that develops natural oxidation, at home in cabins and intimate dining spaces.

VeroMetal gold finish sample for yacht feature surfaces

Gold

The most decorative finish, for feature elements, display furniture and bespoke objects onboard.

VeroMetal zinc finish sample for contemporary yacht interiors

Zinc

A cool, soft grey with a restrained character, suited to modern and minimal yacht schemes.

VeroMetal tin finish sample for yacht trims and detailing

Tin

A pale, subtle grey with a quiet sheen, elegant on built-in furniture, decorative trims and accents.

VeroMetal manganese finish sample for dark yacht interiors

Manganese

A deep, near-black liquid metal for dark, contemporary stair cores and owner spaces.

VeroMetal iron finish sample with living patina

Iron

A raw, industrial finish that develops a living patina through exposure, chosen for its natural character.

The Principle

Real metal where solid metal cannot go. At approximately 0.5 kg/m², genuine metal reaches the panels, stairs and ceilings a superyacht could never afford to clad in sheet.

Comparison

Metal Finishes For Yacht Interior With VeroMetal vs Solid Sheet Metal

Both deliver a genuine metal surface. At sea the decisive difference is weight, and after weight, freedom of form.

Metal Finishes For Yacht Interior With VeroMetal

VeroMetal coating
  • Approximately 0.5 kg/m², applied at 120 to 150 microns.
  • Real metal appearance in a lightweight form, a fraction of the weight of solid sheet metal.
  • Bonds to wood, MDF, stone, composites and aluminium.
  • Flexible application on vertical and curved surfaces, with no joints.
  • Non porous surface, easy to clean and maintain.

Solid Sheet Metal

Traditional cladding
  • Many times heavier than a coating for a comparable surface, a real penalty on a displacement budget.
  • Requires fixings, sub-structure and load-bearing support.
  • Curved and sculptural forms need fabrication and welding.
  • Heavy panels are difficult on lightweight composite substrates.
  • Real metal, but constrained by weight and installation.

Substrates

What Can VeroMetal Be Applied To Onboard?

Because VeroMetal® can be applied to substrates such as MDF, composites and aluminium, designers gain full freedom when creating bespoke interiors for superyachts and private vessels. The metal arrives as a coating, so no structural loading is added to the vessel.

  • Boards and timberMDF, plywood, solid wood, joinery and built-in furniture.
  • CompositesComposite panels and polyester, the standard lightweight core of a modern interior.
  • Aluminium and existing metalAluminium substructure, existing metalwork, stair rails and balustrades.
  • Stone and glassStone surfaces and glass elements in bathrooms and spa areas.
Applications

Where Is VeroMetal Used In A Yacht Interior?

VeroMetal® is trusted by yacht interior designers and shipyards around the world. The liquid metal technology enables detailed craftsmanship and seamless integration with curved and complex surfaces, helping to bring bold design concepts to life.

  • Wall and ceiling panelsLarge surfaces where a sheet metal weight penalty would be unacceptable.
  • Stair rails and balustradesContinuous real metal across curved and sculptural stair geometry.
  • Built-in furniture and cabinetsBespoke joinery in the owner suite and guest cabins.
  • Bathroom and spa surfacesVanities, feature walls and wet-area details.
  • Bar elements and decorative trimsFeature bars, accents and fine detailing throughout the vessel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Metal Finishes For Yacht Interior: Common Questions

What are metal finishes for yacht interior design?

Metal finishes for yacht interior design are genuine metal surfaces specified across salons, cabins, staircases and custom furnishings. VeroMetal® delivers them as a coating rather than a panel. Real metal particles are mixed with a binder, applied cold at 120 to 150 microns, and cured to a solid metal surface that can be polished, patinated and aged like the metal it is made from.

How much does a VeroMetal surface weigh?

A VeroMetal® surface weighs approximately 0.5 kg/m² and is applied at only 120 to 150 microns. That is a fraction of the weight of solid sheet metal of comparable appearance. Weight is the governing constraint on a superyacht, so this is the argument that puts real metal into wall panels, ceiling panels and full staircases where solid metal would never be accepted.

Which substrates can be coated on board?

VeroMetal® coatings are crafted from real metal and adhere to a wide range of substrates including wood, MDF, stone and composites, as well as aluminium. Because it can be applied to composites and aluminium, designers gain full freedom when creating bespoke interiors for superyachts and private vessels, without adding structural loading to the vessel.

Which metals are available for a yacht interior?

Choose from timeless metals such as brass, bronze and copper, alongside gold, zinc, tin and manganese. Each finish can be customised with patinas, textures and polishing techniques to match the desired atmosphere onboard, from a warm bronze salon to a near-black manganese stair core.

Can VeroMetal follow curved and complex yacht geometry?

Yes. The liquid metal technology enables detailed craftsmanship and seamless integration with curved and complex surfaces, helping to bring bold design concepts to life. A coating follows a compound curve without fabrication, welding or visible seams, which is the reason it appears on stair rails, balustrades and sculptural bar elements.

Can VeroMetal be used on a refit as well as a new build?

Yes. Whether you are building a new yacht or refitting an existing one, VeroMetal® brings unique value to the project. Because it is a coating, existing panels, cabinetry and trims can receive a genuine metal face in place, adding richness to the interior while maintaining the lightweight and technical requirements of the yachting industry.
