Metal Finishes for Interior Design

Real Metal Coatings

Metal Finishes for Interior Design

Metal finishes for interior design give walls, furniture, cabinetry, and surfaces the authentic look and texture of real metal. VeroMetal® is a liquid metal coating containing actual metal particles — bronze, copper, brass, zinc, iron, and more — suspended in a cold-workable resin, applied directly to almost any substrate at 120–150 microns.

VeroMetal eliminates the need for heavy sheet metal or structural reinforcement. The finished surface looks, feels, and weathers like solid metal, at a fraction of the weight and complexity.

Application

How Are Metal Finishes Applied in Interior Design?

VeroMetal® metal finishes are applied using four methods: spray gun, roller, palette knife, or by pouring. Each method produces a different texture and surface quality.

Spray application creates a smooth, even metal surface ideal for large wall panels and facade elements. Palette knife application builds up texture, veining, and depth — popular with interior designers working on feature walls, furniture fronts, and decorative objects.

The coating cures at room temperature, which means applicators can work on-site without specialist equipment or high-heat processes.

Why VeroMetal

Why Interior Designers Choose VeroMetal Metal Finishes

VeroMetal® is specified by architects and interior designers on projects ranging from private residential interiors to landmark cultural buildings, including Hotel Motto Vienna, Museum De Lakenhal, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi display cabinets.

01

Bonds to existing substrates

Walls, furniture, and fittings can be transformed without replacement. VeroMetal applies directly to painted surfaces, MDF, plasterboard, concrete, and glass.

02

Genuine metal, not an effect

The result is real metal, not a paint or foil simulation. VeroMetal contains actual metal particles that behave, age, and feel like solid metal.

03

Authentic ageing over time

Oxidation, patina, and weathering develop naturally on the surface. This organic character is a defining quality of genuine luxury materials.

Surfaces and Applications

What Surfaces Can Receive Metal Finishes?

VeroMetal® metal finishes adhere to a wide range of interior surfaces. Suitable substrates include MDF, plywood, plasterboard, concrete, stone, fibreglass, foam, glass, and most painted or primed surfaces. The coating is cold-workable, meaning no heat or specialist oven is required.

Typical interior applications include kitchen cabinet fronts, bar counters, reception desks, staircase balustrades, fireplace surrounds, decorative wall panels, ceiling elements, and bespoke furniture pieces. For wall surfaces at larger scale, VeroMetal AquaFill provides a plaster-based metal stucco system for fast application over large areas.

Project Example

Metal Finishes Across Every Scale

From a single furniture front to a complete staircase, VeroMetal® metal finishes scale to any interior design project. The Ibiza staircase demonstrates how VeroMetal Manganese can be applied across balustrades, handrails, and structural supports to create a continuous metal aesthetic throughout a residential interior.

The same coating system is used in cultural and hospitality projects worldwide — the consistency of application and material quality remains the same regardless of project scale or complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Metal Finishes for Interior Design — Common Questions

What are metal finishes for interior design?

Metal finishes for interior design are coatings or cladding materials that give surfaces the appearance and texture of real metal. VeroMetal® is a liquid metal coating containing real metal particles — including bronze, copper, brass, zinc, and iron. Applied at 120–150 microns, VeroMetal creates an authentic metal surface on walls, furniture, and architectural elements without the weight of sheet metal.

How thick is a VeroMetal metal finish?

VeroMetal® metal finishes are applied at a coating thickness of 120–150 microns, equivalent to roughly 0.12 to 0.15 millimetres. This thin application adds negligible weight to any substrate, making VeroMetal suitable for walls, panels, furniture, and objects that could not support the weight of real metal sheet or cladding.

Can metal finishes be applied to existing furniture or walls?

Yes. VeroMetal® metal finishes bond directly to most existing surfaces, including painted walls, MDF furniture fronts, plasterboard, and concrete. Interior designers and contractors apply VeroMetal on-site without removing or replacing existing elements, making it a practical and cost-efficient choice for renovation projects and bespoke interior fit-outs.

Do VeroMetal metal finishes look like real metal?

VeroMetal® metal finishes contain real metal particles, so they look, feel, and age like genuine metal. The surface develops authentic oxidation and patina over time, identical to solid metal. Unlike paint or foil alternatives, VeroMetal finishes can be sanded, polished, oxidised, and patinated using the same techniques applied to solid metal surfaces.

Which metal finish is most popular for interior design?

Bronze and copper are the most popular VeroMetal® metal finishes for interior use. VeroMetal Bronze is frequently specified for kitchen cabinetry, fireplace surrounds, and hospitality interiors. VeroMetal Copper suits warm contemporary schemes. VeroMetal Manganese and Iron are popular in minimalist and industrial interior design schemes where a darker, more restrained metal appearance is required.
